Desk build process

After a nice day of building, this is the current state of the desk. It really looks promising I must say. The height is perfect and the stability is great! Now I only have to find a chair which fits with this. By the way, the loose shelf on top of the table lies on slides which makes it possible to slide the monitor and the keyboard over the master controller. I hope that this will work ok. I have just ordered the telescope slides, hope to have them by the end of next week.

Studio desk

The final major step in the build to to construct an ergonomic, goodlooking studio desk which can hold my 88-key masterkeyboard, speakers, monitors, keyboard and mouse. This is what I have come up with.

Better late than never!

Hi all,

As you might have seen I have been really lousy about updating the blog during the past month. The two most fitting reasons why this has not happened is; christmas and much work. The good news is that the studio build has really moved forward. The last update was about me receiving the ventilation equipment, but since then much has happened. I have assembled the fans and the ventilation ducts for both the room as well as the computer box, installed all electricity, lighting, floor and a door. The door is really a good story btw. My wife's parents, who is helping out a lot, mentioned to some distant friends that I was looking for a heavy door to be used in the studio build. It turned out that they had a solid teak door, with frame just lying around in their summer cottage too heavy to through away. I got it for free if I just picked it up! Perfect. It fit just nicely and just needs a new paint layer. Great!

The last couple of days we have finished the bass traps in the corners, the absorbers on the walls and the lighting. The last major task is to build the studio desk. I have some nice ideas how to do it and I have all the material I need so I will start this week. The plan is to have everything finalized by end of January. Let's see if I can make it!

Ventilation

When I got home from work yesterday, I had two nice boxes on the veranda. The fan for the computer box, ventliation silencer and the actual ventilation outlets in the room had arrived! Nice! But when I opened the boxes I found out that instead of getting a 600 mm long ventilation silencer, I got a 1200 mm one! This is fine by me as long as I only have to pay for the 600 mm one. I haven't received an invoice yet, so we'll see what happens...

Tomorrow night I hope to apply the second layer of paint to the computer box and start to install the ventilation.

Floor and paint

Last sunday I picked a nice laminated maple floor at Byggmax here in LuleƄ. The price was right and it looked really nice. it is now 2/3 from ready, I saved the last third since I want to paint the computer box ready before I have the floor tiles right next to the box. Regarding the box, I always assumed that the box and the table I would like to build should be black but after applying the first layer of white foundation paint, I sort of noticed that it might be nice to have white furniture instead of black. I mean, the room is small as it is so anything that will make the box look smaller and the room feel bigger is welcome. It also gives a nice feel, just being surrounded by white walls, a white roof and white furniture. So white it is!
